چکیده

Introduction and Objectives. Roboflex Avicenna represents a new platform for flexible ureteroscopy, capable to provide a safer and more effective lithotripsy for renal calculi. Materials and methods. The study was prospective and included a number of 66 patients which underwent robotic flexible ureteroscopy (FURS) for renal calculi between July and December 2015. All the procedures were performed with a Storz SPIeS type flexible ureteroscope in association with Avicenna Roboflex. Stone fragmentation was performed using a Dornier Medilas 20H, Holmium Laser of 20 watt power and 2.1μm wavelength. Results. The mean age was 51 years (range 25-74 years) and the mean stone size was 2.4 cm (range 1.0-3.7 cm). The average operatory time was 45 min (range 38-103 min), while the average dusting time was 35 min (range 27-86 min). Concerning the intraoperative complications, there was only one case of intraoperative bleeding during robotic FURS. The number of cases which required retreatment was significantly reduced for robotic FURS (only 9.1%). The stone free rate after 3 months was 92.4%, thus representing a clear performance of the robotic technique. In some cases there were noticed residual fragments smaller than 3 mm, in 12.1% of patients who underwent robotic FURS. Conclusions. The robotic treatment of kidney stones represents already a viable method with confirmed outcomes.

Robotic pyelolithotomy in a congenital pelvic kidney: side docking and robotic prostatectomy port - site approach

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Ectopic pelvic kidneys with renal stones are challenging to treat. We report our experience in managing a case of ectopic pelvic kidney with a pelvic stone by robotic pyelolithotomy after failure of flexible ureteroscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 46-year old male with 2 months history of vague lower abdominal pain was found to have on Computed Tomography scan a left...

A new robot for flexible ureteroscopy: development and early clinical results (IDEAL stage 1-2b).

BACKGROUND An improved armamentarium has had a significant impact on the emerging role of flexible ureteroscopy (FURS) for the management of nephrolithiasis; however, FURS still represents a challenging technique. OBJECTIVE To examine a robotic device designed for FURS for its impact on ergonomics and outcome of the procedure based on the IDEAL (idea, development, evaluation, assessment, long...

Difference of opinion--In the era of flexible ureteroscopy is there still a place for Shock-wave lithotripsy? Opinion: NO.

Flexible ureteroscopy will replace almost completely ESWL for the treatment of renal stones in few years, even in developing countries. This process is already ongoing and probably is irreversible. Let ́s try to understand how and why this phenomenon is happening. Since the development of the External Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) in the late 70’s (1), it has been the standard treatment for small...

Editorial Comment: Laparoscopic - Assisted Transpyelic Rigid Nephroscopy - Simple Alter-native When Flexible Ureteroscopy Is Not Available

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is generally considered the first choice for the treatment of large upper urinary tract stones. However, laparoscopic stone surgery with or without robotic assistance is a viable alternative especially in cases with aberrant anatomy such as ectopic or malrotated kidneys (1-3). A recent meta-analysis found several advantages of the laparoscopic approach, especially r...

Ex Vivo Removal of Stones in Donor Kidneys by Flexible Ureteroscopy Prior to Renal Transplantation: A Case Report

BACKGROUND Because of the shortage of grafts, many attempts have been made to treat calculi in donor kidneys and have achieved successful management. This case report is the first to present removal of stones from bilateral kidneys from a single donor through flexible ureteroscopy before transplantation. CASE REPORT The present case report shows the clinical management of bilateral donor kidney...
